Contemporary Jewelry Week Budapest 2022 / Exhibition Series September 12 - 18
Contemporary Jewelry Week Budapest 2022 / Exhibition Series September 12 - 18
Budapest will be the capital of contemporary jewelry for a week!
This September, the capital will once again be the capital of contemporary jewelry. The Contemporary Jewelry Week Budapest (BJW), previously known as the Night of Jewelry, will be held for the eighth time between September 12-18, 2022, organized by the goldsmiths of FISE!
The most important goal of the event is to popularize the genre of contemporary jewelry as widely as possible, giving domestic and foreign artists the opportunity to present their latest works. The program series operates on a biennial theme, and as in every even-numbered year, this fall, interested parties will be able to encounter exhibitions and programs organized in connection with the event at more than twenty locations throughout Budapest, as well as at the Mana Gallery in Szentendre and the Ezüstláz Gallery in Pécs.
During the week-long series of events, in addition to individual or group exhibitions by Hungarian artists, the internationally announced competition material will also be presented, hosted by the Hybridart Space Gallery, one of the best venues in the city center.
This year's slogan is: PARADOX. The one-person jury for the competition material is one of the most prominent and influential figures in contemporary jewelry design, the Dutch Gijs Bakker. This is certainly one of the reasons why this year's call for applications exceeded all previous ones. We can therefore be sure that an exceptionally exciting and meaningful exhibition awaits the audience. The competition material, the PARADOX exhibition pieces, will be on display from September
Due to the great interest in previous years, there will also be guided tours of the venue this year, where the organizing team will take visitors around, allowing them to take a deeper look at the competition material on display.
The same space will also host the presentation of glass and jewelry designer Márta Edőcs’ series, created especially for the event. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the jewelry will support the future operation of the event.
We take great care to organize valuable programs for the wider public as well as for the creative community, which can help the professional development of artists. This year, interested parties can participate in several lectures, workshops and portfolio reviews. It is a great privilege that Gijs Bakker, who is participating as a jury, will delight the domestic audience with a personal presentation at the Three Ravens Café in the heart of the city center. Another guest of the event, Charon Kransen, a New York art collector and curator, will talk about the collaboration with the artists in an online presentation, and will even hold a professional consultation for domestic designers on an application basis. This year's third speaker, internationally acclaimed artist and book author Daniela Malev, will also visit Hungary and, in addition to her professional report, she will provide an insight into her design attitude within the framework of a five-day workshop at the Kredenc Studio between September 19-23, during which participants can enrich their practical experience.
In addition to the aforementioned events, it is important to highlight that each of the individual or group exhibitions will also have its own program during the jewelry week, where interested parties can personally meet the artists and their works. Throughout the entire program series, a map specifically related to the event will make it easy to navigate between the programs, on which all locations and important dates will be found.
On Friday, September 16, the main program of the event will take place, where the valuable and meaningful awards will be presented in a ceremonial setting to the creators of the related exhibitions and the exhibitors of the Paradox competition material. The awards include numerous foreign exhibition opportunities and valuable gift packages, which enable the establishment of new professional relationships and the birth of new works of art. The pearl-shaped porcelain award, which has become known as the trademark of the event, was made by ceramic artist Katalin Herter this year as well. It can be visited until September 25.
What is new is that this year, enthusiastic interested parties can also try themselves as creators at the workshop of jewelry designer Veronika Fazekas, in the Kastner Kommunity community space, on Saturday, September 17, between 10 am and 2 pm.
