Retrospective question about the year 2016 with Dóra Dés-Kertész metalsmith

1. Best experience of 2016
The Jewelry Night in November. It was the result of the hard work of the organisers team - Kinga Huber, Orsi Kecskés, Szilvi Kerékgyártó, Krisztina Stomfai and Fanni Vékony. I'm proud of the gorgeous exhibitions, the new works, and the many visitors.

2. And the worst...
There wasn't just a one and big annoyance but little bad things continuously.

3. The most inspiring case from tha last year
The metalsmith art camp at Mátranovák where I was able to step out of the daily routine.

4. New experience
I started to work at home. This is a very new situation for me, I try to keep balance between work and private life.

5. New Year's resolution
I've many plans and projects, but I'm not sure all would be realized, and maybe I need some self-improvement about time-management.

Kata Lenzsér Mezei: RÉZLETEK

In her work RÉZLETEK, Kata Lenzsér-Mezei examines copper and questions it by torturing, pressing and bathing it, in chemical compounds, through jewels and objects. Or is it rather copper formations or copper images that she tells us about?
On the one hand, shaping copper is conceptual and manual work. On the other hand, it is the result of the intuitive attitude of the artist, who draws inspiration from the natural characteristics of copper.
While working it, she exploits properties like plasticity, malleability and elasticity of the metal, producing individual and non-recurrent spatial forms, which results in a deeper knowledge and understanding of the properties of the material.
Copper is soft. She wrinkles, creases and smooths it. It is organic, leathery. Among its planned creases there is something intuitive and autonomous.
Copper is hard. The object, designed with an engineer’s accuracy, is precise.
Copper is coloured. Verdigris is the boundary of art and science.

Király Fanni az idén ősszel ünnepli PERGAMEN ékszer kísérleteinek 10. évfordulóját. A kiállítás válogat a fontosabb darabokból, és bemutatja az újdonságokat: köztük HAIKU sorozat aszimmetrikus testékszereit. Az ékszerek klasszikus japán haikuk inspirációjára születtek, megragadva egy tünékeny pillanat harmóniáját. A sorozat darabjai nemzetközi szinten elismertek, és példányaik hazai közgyűjteménybe kerültek. A pergamen kikészítésű kecskebőr felhasználásának teljesen új útját teremtették meg. .

Fanni Király has started her experiments with the PARCHMENT jewellery collection ten years ago. The exhibitions selects from the most important pieces and show the news: the HAIKU series’ asymmetrical objects, which can be worn on various parts of the human body. The jewellery was inspired by Japanese haikus from the Edo period, and tries to catch the harmony of the passing moment. The pieces of the series got an international attention, and were purchased by Hungarian public collection. They create a new way of the using of the goat parchment.

Az élet egy kaleidoszkóp, forog velünk, színek és fények villannak, gyönyörködünk és elszédülünk. Aztán van úgy, hogy leülepszik, kitisztul a kép, egyensúlyba kerülnek a szilánkok, mint egy energiát sugárzó mandalában. A szeretet nem létezik, míg nincs kinek adni, ahogy az árnyék és fény sem létezhet egymás nélkül.

Kerékgyártó Szilvia:

Az ellentétek megbékélnek egymással fény és árnyék határán. Ami megvan az egyikben, nincs meg a másikban, egymás nélkül gyengék, együtt győzedelmeskednek.
A folyton változó fényben egy ékszer árnyéka táncot jár a bőrünkön.

Dés-Kertész Dóra:

Lábujjhegyre álltunk, ágaskodtunk, nyújtózkodtunk, egymást is eltapostuk, hogy meglássuk a fényt. Mintha nem lett volna választásunk; irányít, kijelöli, hogy mit láthatunk és hogyan, mi pedig elhisszük, hogy szép, hogy meleg, hogy igazi és hogy mi akartuk.

Humor, önirónia, különleges anyagok. Mi minden lehet ma alapanyag? Leginkább az, ami a klasszikus ékszerre a legkevésbé jellemző: papír, fa, Barbie cipő, céklapor, vagy akár mosogatószivacs. A trendektől eltérő gondolkodásmód, igazodni nem akaró, érzelmekkel teli kollekciók. Fontos rejtett üzeneteket hordozó kortárs ékszerek, objektek és öltözékek négy fiatal designer és egy gyűjtő értelmezésében.

A rendezvényen való részvétel ingyenes.

A FISE hét ékszertervező művészből álló szervezőcsapata 2014 őszén a kortárs ékszer népszerűsítésére hozta létre az Ékszerek Éjszakája Budapest projektet, mely egy valóban hiánypótló kezdeményezésnek bizonyult.

Besnyői Rita, Dés-Kertész Dóra és Kerékgyártó Szilvia a Budapesti Szolgáltató- és Kézművesipari Szakképző Iskolában tanultak, és immáron három éve létrehozták a Hajós utcai Ékezet Galériát, ahol nemcsak készítik egyedi ékszereiket, hanem ötvös workshopokat tartanak, kiállításokat rendeznek.
Huber Kinga, Kecskés Orsolya, Stomfai Krisztina és Vékony Fanni a MOME (Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem) diákjai voltak. Több mint négy éves sikeres együttműködésük gyümölcse több budapesti kiállítás, és közös bemutatkozásuk a müncheni „Schmuck” rendezvényen is, mely jelenleg Európa legnagyobb kortárs ékszer seregszemléje.

A sikeres első év után a szervezők ezért 2016 novemberében ismét tervezik az Ékszerek Éjszakája Budapest fesztivál megrendezését. A FISE Ékszerek Éjszakája Budapest Csoport 2016-ban számos új, izgalmas és színvonalas helyszínnel, még több kiváló alkotóval és sok újdonsággal jelentkezik majd.

Eight artists, whose paths rarely cross, are connected by a shared experience: the state of being RESTLESS.

The exhibition examines the ongoing dynamics of imbalance and realignment. External pressure condenses into inner tension, then transforms — where energy and exhaustion are not opposite, but different states of the same process. The jewelry offers no answers, only traces captured in material, form, and thought.
Artists recognized in both international and Hungarian design circles bring divergent perspectives together, creating unexpected harmony while leaving room for interpretation.

This world is such a world, sometimes we can't even believe it's real.

There is a technique that, after a lot of practice, will allow us to separate dreams from reality. It is called the reality test. According to experts, it should be done like this: "at least every half hour during the day, we should check whether we are dreaming or not, looking for strange things in space and time, always assuming that "maybe I am dreaming?" Even if the answers to the first questions indicate that we are awake, we should still do the test, because it may turn out that we are really dreaming!"

But what if the test shows that we are definitely awake, but we still don't want to believe our eyes? Should we accept this world as it is?

In 2025, the National Goldsmith Competition, which is the meeting point for Hungarian goldsmith foundation training courses, will be held for the fourth time. The initiative aims to support talent, promote joint thinking and dialogue, and open new perspectives in contemporary goldsmithing.

This year's slogan: HIBA
Mistakes are a natural part of learning and creation: through them we learn the limits of materials, our own frameworks, and can discover new paths. Repetition, the search for perfection and the inevitable lack leave a mark on every object, which thus preserves the personal imprint and context of the creator. The works submitted to the competition carry a narrative message – stories that speak through the work of the hand, the shaping of the material and mistakes.

The exhibition features 52 works by 44 applicants, each of which provides a unique reflection on the concept of "mistake".

PRIMAVERA – The (Lost) Art of Delight
How can a rigid, harsh metal object and a photo depicting a fleeting reality be enchanted into life? How can we slow down, even halt, the transience of a flower (rather, of life itself)? How can we reflect on a single theme through three different artistic mediums, and bring them closer together, onto a common ground? Is the right context essential for creating a successful artwork, or can we, in justified cases, rely on instinctual emotional connections? Exactly one year after the collaboration's inception, moving out of the digital realm, the partnership culminates in a joint curatorial effort, now in physical form. Fortuitous happenstances, old and new friendships, and a commonly spoken "language of flowers" characterize the genesis of the Primavera project. Self-expression, associative processes, the joy of free creation, rebirth in an art-for-art’s-sake movement, in the interpretation of visual artist Krisztina Bóka, floral artist Dóra Légrádi and jewellery designer Boglárka Cselőtei.
